Watch the African Cup games for free on your cell phone and check out the teams that will play in 2024.
The games started on January 13th and should take place until February 11th, in a knockout format.
There will be 24 teams in total, divided into 6 groups of 4 teams per group.
The games are taking place in Ivory Coast, which is the host country for the African Cup this year.
Ivory Coast hosted the World Cup for the first time 40 years ago, and is honored to be hosting the African Cup again.
Tradition
In the previous edition of the African Cup, the country responsible for hosting the event was Cameroon, and as usual it took place at the beginning of the year.
Africa has a tradition of holding the World Cup at the beginning of the year due to climate issues.
The middle of the year is a very complicated period there, as the heat waves and rain showers in the summer are very intense.
With the exception of Egypt, which was one of the only countries to hold the World Cup during the middle of the year in 2019, the rest still maintain this custom.
However, after this 2024 edition, some rules must change and make it mandatory to hold the World Cup in the middle of the year.
This is because holding the cup at the beginning of the year conflicts with the European league, as many players who currently play in Europe also play in the African Cup.
Embezzlement
As the tradition in Africa is to have the start of its cup at the beginning of the year, this causes some absences in European teams.
Because while the World Cup is taking place, the European championship will also be taking place, which will leave some players out.
Many players from the African continent have contracts with European teams, and this time of year becomes a little complicated.
However, players have contracts that specify this issue as the African Cup is a highly relevant event.
However, as said before, this should change from the next World Cup onwards.
